Movies to watch out for in 2008

bollywoodjodha akabar
No, we never made the disappearing act. It’s just that there are lots of exciting movies lined up this year and we’ve been having a tough time selecting (some angry emails and phone calls stating: “Why is our film missing from the list so far?” made our task a bit cumbersome too…not that we succumbed…) what we feel are the best ones. In this final part we bring you more movies to watch out for in 2008. Alright guys it’s time to quench your thirst for what you wouldn’t get anywhere else. Relish-n-cherish…

Ghajini Remake (Hindi title yet to be coined)

After the stunningly heartwarming Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan’s next will be the remake of Tamil super-hit Ghajinii. A R Murugadoss, director of the original version is helming the Hindi remake and the stunning beauty Asin (also part of the Tamil version) will be essaying her part as well. Talented young actress Jiah Khan will be playing the other female lead. Music is by A R Rahman with lyrics by exceptional wordsmith Prasoon Joshi. This Diwali get ready for dhamakedaar fireworks!

Heroes

It’s a big project from director Samir Karnik and Future Picture Company. With names like Salman Khan, Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta attached to this 'roadie' film shot in the picturesque locales of Laddakh and Manali, there’s a lot of hope riding on these new age Heroes. Music credits are jointly shared by Monty Sharma (Saawariya) and Sajid-Wajid assuring a bunch of melodious chartbusters. To add to the names of the biggies, sample a few more stars like Sohail Khan, Vatsal Sheth, Bobby Deol, Mithun Chakraborthy, Dino Morea, Riya Sen and Amrita Arora who’ll lend their starry presence as well. Seems like a must-ride….what do you say!

Mission Istanbul

Stylish director Apoorva Lakhia, after the thumping success of Shootout at Lokhandwala, is feverishly working on his next ambitious project Mission Istanbul starring Vivek Oberoi, Zayed Khan and Shriya Saran with a guest appearance by Abhishek Bachchan. Based on terrorism, this Popcorn Motion Pictures Ltd film promises to showcase some death-defying stunts for which the best-from-the-West shall do the honours. In all ‘possibil’ity, this ‘Mission’ will surely come in for a lot of attention this year.

Jodhaa Akbar

Jodhaa Akbar is an epic romance propelled by a colossal belief featuring two of the most-good-looking actors (Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai) in the Indian film industry. This Ashutosh Gowarikar directed film promises incredible moments of History as Nitin Desai’s magnificent sets resurrect the golden period of Mughal era right down to its minutest of details. UTV’s lavish Production design augmented by Rahman’s musical score can very well change the way Indian films are perceived all over the world.

EMI

The title is very Today. EMI or Easy Monthly Installment is a term that most of us have to deal with when it comes to repaying the loans that supposedly bring comfort in our lives but ends up adding stress of deadlines over a sizable period of time. Sanjay Dutt with an unconventional look hogs the publicity design of this Popcorn Motion Pictures Ltd film directed by debutante Saurabh Kabra. Arjun Rampal, Ashish Chaudhry, Urmila Matondkar and Neha Oberoi will be seen in important roles in the film. Seems like you’ll be paying a lot of EMI at the multiplexes this year!

Black And White

It’s hard to believe but Anil Kapoor is in big demand after stealing Akshay’s thunder in Welcome. All his forthcoming films are being looked forward to with renewed anticipation-n-interest. One such film is Mukta Searchlight Film’s Black and White where Anil plays the white guy while the budding NSD talent Anurag Sinha will display the murky black shades. It’s a small film that’s promising to deliver big results due to its narrative style. Worth the wait!

Kidnap

Sanjay Dutt will play father to a grown up girl in Sanjay Gadhvi’s racy thriller Kidnap. The film also stars Aamir Khan’s much-talked-about nephew Imran Khan (who is making his debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na) and Minisha Lamba. Yes, it has been delayed because of Dutt’s court case, subsequent imprisonment and also due to some ‘hairy’ issues. But knowing Gadhvi’s talent Kidnap will offer high-action-packed drama for sure.

Sanjay Kapoor’s Untitled Production

His debut film Love Story 2050 is yet to be released but he is already being touted as the next big thing in the B-Town. Isn’t he looking simply delicious in this First Look of Sanjay Kapoor’s first production (girls, get your Lust-o-Meter ready). And by the way, his co-star Genelia Desouza has a stunning appeal too. This yet untitled film will melt quite a few hearts. Watch out for this one!

Race

The speed defying first promo of Tips Music Films Race has left everyone gasping for more. Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Sameera Reddy, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif shall be seen in the main lead in this taut thriller. Yes, you must be looking forward to the steamy Saif-Bipasha lovemaking scene but when it’s an Abbas Mastan film, there must be a whole lot of other forms of exciting stuff happening as well. Worth speeding to the cinema halls it seems…

PS: There are a lot many more films that could have fit the bill but unfortunately we don’t have their images and didn’t deem it appropriate to talk about them since we are showcasing a photo-feature. But nevertheless, you can surely let us know your choice of the films that are worth looking forward to in 2008 at Movies to watch out for in 2008
