Minissha Lamba talks about 'Shaurya'

Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba speaks about her upcoming movie 'Shaurya' directed by Samar Khan. The film also stars K K Menon, Rahul Bose and Deepak Dobriyal. Watch the petite Minissha in conver.
Just because Shaurya isn't frivolous doesn't make it any less commercial", debates Minissha Lamba as she gears up for the release of a big film of hers after a gap of more than one year. Last film of hers to arrive at the theaters was Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd (Feb 2007). In between she was seen in small appearances in Heyy Babyy (special appearance in the title song) and Dus Kahaniyaan (for the story 'Pooranmashi') too.

"Sometimes we tend to create a misconception without any reason around the subject and treatment of a film. Just because Shaurya is based on an Army court case doesn't signify by any means that it would be a dry story to be told", explains Minissha, "The film has great elements of intrigue and drama with finding out the real truth as the underlining stream which runs throughout the narrative."

What was it about Shaurya which made her agree to do the film? After all it seems to be a male dominated drama with actors like Rahul Bose, Kay Kay Menon, Javed Jaffrey and Deepak Dobriyal holding the center stage. Didn't she feel she would loose out screen space amongst so many other actors?

"On the contrary, I was thrilled with this kind of opportunity", says the pretty girl who made a smashing debut with Yahaan around 3 years back, "In fact, I agree that even my part could have been a male character in the film. But director Samar Khan's point of view was that a female actor here would add certain softness to the character. There is this vulnerability angle which comes in that only adds an altogether different dimension."

So what exactly does she do in the film? From playing a super girl in Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, she wouldn't be setting down for anything lesser, isn't it? Laughs Minissha, "No, it definitely isn't close to any fantasy character. Instead, it is as real as it gets as I play an investigative journalist who stumbles across a case which is almost dead and buried."

Getting serious, she adds, "While everyone around her feels that this case should die, it is my character which wants to find answers to all the questions which no one wants to remember or talk about. Yes, for her too it starts off as a story which she wants to do for professional reasons; of course she is ambitious and wants to prove a point. However, as the film moves ahead, it becomes a matter of personal issue for her as she wants the justice to be done at all cost."

"Shaurya is a story which had to be told. Sometimes we have to make movies which are commercial and yet aspire to drive home a message. A message that instead of taking it lying down, one should be courageous enough to fight for the right cause and get the truth out in open. And yes, all this can be done cinematically through an entertaining manner as well", signs off Minissha.
