Obituaries were in place for the Aishwarya-Shah Rukh pair, immediately after the unfortunate happenings on the sets of CHALTE CHALTE (2003), involving her and 'the then' boyfriend Salman Khan. But that is a closed chapter and a thing of the past. At present Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is basking in the glory of the superb performance of her first post marriage release, JODHAA AKBAR. Even her detractors have grudgingly given her the title- The first fully active actress after marriage!
There is no denying the fact that the two films, JOSH (2000), MOHABBATEIN (2000) and DEVDAS (2002), in which Aishwarya acted with Shah Rukh Khan, the two vibed superbly. In fact, when JOSH released, the uniform view was that Aishwarya shared a better chemistry with SRK (who played her brother in the film) than with her love interest, Chandrachur Singh! Not only that, their item number, 'Ishq Kameena' from SHAKTI -THE POWER (2002) is a very popular track, till this day.
So will we see the King Khan-Aishwarya pair again or has the CHALTE CHALTE controversy killed the prospects? Well, when the Bachchan Bahu was asked the same, she was very clear when she said that she is ready to work with Shah Rukh Khan, provided that there is a proposal worthy of her consideration.

Ash's item number with her ex, Viveik
The song will be shot in Rajasthan. Zayed Khan will also be a part of it. The reason the Bachchans have agreed to be a part of the Viveik-starrer was because of Abhishek's friendship with director Apoorva Lakhia. Abhishek had starred in Lakhia's first film, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost. He, as well as Amitabh , had also guest-starred in Lakhia's Shootout At Lokhandwala free of cost. That's probably why they say dost ke liye kuch bhi karega in Bollywood. It sounds unbelievable but a little birdie informed Gullu that Viveik Oberoi will do an item number with his ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai , and her husband Abhishek Bachchan in Mission Istanbul.

Jodhaa Akbar breaks all overseas records

Jodhaa Akbar, the historic film by Ashutosh Gowarikar has broken all overseas records and achieved the status of being the 4th Biggest Opening Film in the World. The movie has generated a whopping $8.1m from 15 territories worldwide. In the UK, the movie opened at Number 10 in the charts, grossing £500,000 in the 1st week.
The best part of all this is that this is the first time that an Indian film has been reviewed so widely by mainstream press in US/UK. All the reviews have been extremely positive, except for the one that was put up in San Francisco Chronicle.

Aishwarya Rai is turning more and more traditional
Ever since Aishwarya Rai became the Bachchan bahu in April 2007, we have spotted the actress turning more and more traditional. At most pubic outings the actress has stuck to a salwar kameez or a sari. And although the actress looks stunning in just about anything she puts on we can’t help but wonder when we will see the chic Ash back!
14th February 2008: Jodhaa Akbar premiere
Wearing a pastel pink sari that most women would give their right arm for, the actress looks every bit the Rajput princess she portrayed in Jodhaa Akbar.
12th January 2008: Cover Girl!
Ash looks every inch of a cover girl seen here at the launch of a magazine.
28th November 2007: Spreading a smile
Spending time with children affected with AIDS at Ashray Foundation with hubby Abhishek Bachchan, Ash stuck to a demure and simple baby pink salwar kameez.

Jodhaa Akbar could make even more money than OSO
Getting a royal welcome on both sides of the Atlantic, Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar, grabbed an estimated $1.3 million in North America and $750,000 in the United Kingdom over the weekend. Factoring in the Gulf countries, the Caribbean and Australia, the three day haul could reach an awesome $3 million. The film may not have crossover appeal to the mainstream audiences but anyone who reads the opening of The New York Times review may be tempted to see it. 'They may not make'em like they used to in Hollywood,' critic Rachel Saltz wrote, 'but sometimes in India they still do. Jodhaa Akbar... is filmmaking on the grand scale of Cecil B De Mille (The Ten Commandments), with romance, stirring battles, and enough elephants and gold to sink the Titanic [Images].' The US box-office was especially impressive given the awful weather conditions in the Midwest. "If the goodwill and enthusiasm for the film continues, and we at UTV feel it will, Jodhaa Akbar could make even more money than Om Shanti Om," said Lokesh Dhar for distributor UTV. "We are not looking at the success of this film in terms of another hit for UTV (which has distributed hits like Don). It could become the all-time highest grossing Bollywood film in North America." Farah Khan's [Images] OSO starring Shah Rukh Khan [Images], who also produced it, grossed about $3.8 million in North America and holds the record. The film, which got decent reviews from many mainstream publications including The New York Times and a few pans like the one in the San Francisco Chronicle, had a record 135 prints released in North America. In the United Kingdom it has some 70 prints. The full week's gross outside India could exceed $4.5 million. Even if the film's takings were to fall by 50 percent in subsequent weeks as it traditionally happens for Bollywood movies, it could still end up with some $8 million. Unlike in India where the entertainment tax takes away nearly 50 percent of the box office collection, Bollywood producers get about 65 percent of the overseas take. Bollywood insiders believe that even if Jodhaa Akbar does not do spectacular business in India, the overseas moolah will help it recuperate its reported $10 million budget. Another reason why the film may not suffer a steep decline in the second week is that there are no big movies challenging Jodhaa Akbar for several weeks, till the action thriller Race, which is also distributed by UTV. "We strongly feel that Jodhaa Akbar is not going to be a one week phenomenon," Dhar said. "Many people are telling us that they are seeing the film two or three times, taking friends and family members who may not usually see films in theatres. The word has gone out that this is one film you ought to see on the big screen first." Indian Americans are also spreading the word that Jodhaa Akbar is not like the typical Bollywood production, and some of them are quoting reviews like the one in The New York Times. She did not forget the music and Kiiran Deohans for his cinematography. 'The film bounces along to a memorable score by A R Rahman. (I am still humming the songs),' Saltz wrote. Giving the film four stars out of five, the BBC's Tajpal Rathore wrote: 'One is perhaps starting to expect too much from director Ashutosh Gowarikar after such masterpieces like Lagaan [Images] and Swades [Images]. But he seems to raise the bar with his historic magnum opus, Jodhaa Akbar.' 'Extensive though it is, Jodhaa Akbar cannot be discussed using small talk,' Rathore wrote. 'Everything in the film is big and grand: the palaces, the armies and most importantly, the love story. It hits at the heartstrings and somehow has enough energy to sustain itself through the bloated script that perhaps should've been chopped. Ravishing Rai is convincing enough but it's Roshan's majestic performance as the love-struck warrior that packs the punch; it's his film from start to finish.' Gowariker knows how to tell a story, declared Sandip Ray in the San Francisco Chronicle, referring specially to Lagaan. But in the new film, the review said, he seems overwhelmed by the sheer weight of history. 'The never-ending opening sequence, a CliffsNotes version of Indian history in superstar Amitabh Bachchan's [Images] sonorous baritone, doesn't help either,' Roy added.' Or perhaps the film just topples over under the sheer weight of all that gold jewelry.' The problem with Jodha and Akbar is that they are both too noble, the reviewer continued. But there are moments when the film manages to break free of its limitations, the review said. 'Jodha and Akbar duel in an empty palace courtyard, their swordplay turning into foreplay,' it explained. 'A crowd of Sufis whirl, their white outfits glowing against the brick red earth, and the emperor leaves his seat to dance ecstatically with them. These are the real human moments in the film. One just wishes there were a few more.' Many viewers in New York and New Jersey cinemas said they were not deterred by the film's length. "We have watched on DVD some films which are just about two hours long and we have found them boring," said a 50-year-old man who had driven 40 miles from Connecticut to see the film in a New York theatre with his wife and grown children "But if a film is well made, who worries about the time? And this kind of a film one must first see in a theatre, never mind what good home entertainment system we have at home.""Despite the fact that Jodhaa Akbar is three-and-a-half hours long," Dhar continued, "and theatres are having less number of shows, we are doing extraordinary business."
'These royals are played by Hrithik Roshan [Images] and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan,' Saltz continued, 'two rather astonishing specimens of human beauty. Neither is a great actor, but both know what's required of a star and seem to the palace born.'
'Epic stories need epic tragedies or at least forbidden love,' he added.' In the 1960 classic Mughal-E-Azam, the rebellious prince (actually the son of Akbar) falls in love with the beautiful courtesan, and her defiant songs became the anthem of star-crossed lovers. (You still hear South Asians singing it at gay pride parades.)'

"Jodhaa was Akbar's wife"

Jodhaa Akbar may have had a grand release but looks like there's been no end to the controversy surrounding the character of Jodhaabai. Director Ashutosh Gowarikar speaks out on his thorough research on the facts represented in the movie.
Asutosh Gowariker's magnum opus has finally hit the theatres. But it looks like there is no end to the troubles that the film has been facing ever since its making and though the film has got a thumbs up from the critics, its business has started quite slow and the film's length which is over three hours has resulted in the cancellation of one show everywhere and the director isn’t obviously happy.
“As a director and co-producer it does make me and Ronnie sad that the show has been reduced from four to three,” said Gowarikar.
And the troubles don’t just end there, the film has faced a ban in Jaipur due to an alleged misrepresentation of facts, but the director stands by his research.
Gowarikar says,” It’s really sad that our own country people are behaving like this, I have done my research and as you can see that the facts are right. Because there is so much contradiction and difference in opinion over my work, I have consulted a lot of books written by established historians.”
When asked whether all this controversy adds to the publicity of the film, he said, “Controversy always gives negative vibes about the movie.”
It's only unfortunate that a film of this scale has to go through such troubled waters, but all we can say is as long as your audience is with you ...you do not exactly need to worry Mr. Gowarikar.

Jodhaa Akbar controversy: Hrithik, Ash react

: After Mumbai, it was Delhi’s turn to catch Jodhaa Akbar walk down the red carpet at the capital's premiere of Ashutosh Gowarikar's magnum opus.
The film has also been in the news for being boycotted in Rajasthan for allegedly distorting historical facts.
Here's what the lead pair Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai have to say to the protestors.
“I would request all the people to watch the film and this itself will quell all the rebellion,” says Aishwarya.
“It is a film. Grab your popcorn and watch the film. Enjoy,” says Hrithik.
And it sure looked like Aishwarya did do her homework, before stepping out to face the controversy.
“Jodha was documented in five different names and Jodhaa was the most popular and that is why we have titled and taken that name,” says Aishwarya.
If that doesn't end the matter, Gowarkiar also makes his case for the film.
“I would appeal to all the Rajput conveners to go and watch the film. I want it to release in Rajasthan. It does not hurt their honour,” says Gowariker.
While the ambitious period drama has so far received mixed reviews from critics, the Box Office verdict is still out on this one.

Jodhaa Akbar is fighting many battles off screen
Historical epic love story Jodhaa Akbar is fighting many battles off screen than perhaps it has on screen. While the multiplex release issue is still unsolved, there is very low response to advance booking in single screen cinema halls and it is also facing agitations from Rajput organizations.
2008’s first biggest release by all means, Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar’s advance booking in single screen halls opened on Monday but the response hasn’t been a very enthusiastic one befitting a biggie of this proportions. A Mumbai single screen manager on condition of anonymity told us, “Very few tickets were sold for Saturday and Sunday and even lesser for Friday, the opening the day. But we are hopeful to see a rise as the release day approaches with Valentine’s Day coming in and with multiplex owners not yet having solved their revenue sharing deal with the makers, those eager to catch the film might turn to us like they did on release day of Taare Zameen Par and Welcome.”
The bookings for PVR Multiplex in Mumbai, the only multiplex chain in Mumbai as of now releasing the film, has opened to an average response as of now.

Aishwarya Rai says ‘Hari’ Om
Star secretaries turning producers is nothing new in Bollywood. Rikku Rakesh Nath who was Madhuri Dixit’s secretary turned producer with Mohabbat . Kumar Mangat who has several projects lined up, had started as Ajay Devgan’s secretary. Hari Singh is one more star secretary to join the league. Aishwarya’s business manager Hari Singh is all set to debut as a producer with a film starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead.
Hari Singh, who has been Aishwarya’s secretary and has also worked as an online producer for the film division of Venus, has launched his own production house called ‘The Voice of India’. The first film under this banner will be a commercial Hindi film of social relevance.
Hari Singh confirms the news saying, “Yes our first film will commence this year. Films produced by my banner ‘The Voice of India’ will be quality projects. Our movies will be socially relevant movies with commercial touch to it. Our first film will be directed by Jagmohan Mundra (of Provoked fame) as he is an apt director to deal with a socially relevant subject.”
Mundra first met Ash when the actress was keen on doing strong women centric films. That was how Provoked came into being.
While Mundra didn’t want to reveal much about the new project, he didn’t deny the news either.“I would like to work with Aishwarya Rai for this project. We have worked before and got along very well. She was surprised that I finished Provoked in just 26 days. I am looking forward to work with her again.”
Hari Singh further informs that he has spoken to Aishwarya about the film and its subject. Ash has liked the story and she has given her go-ahead. “Aishwarya has given her consent. It is a very interesting subject that will have a strong female protagonist played by Ash. Along with Ash, my daughter Bhumika Singh (who made her debut in Aap Ki Khatir ) will also be a part of the film. We are working on the script and as soon as we finish it, we will decide the other cast of the film”, informs Singh

Hrithik talks about Aishwarya kiss
If one can recall, the two hot stars were lip locked in a sensational scene for 2006’s DHOOM 2.which according to the media angered Aishwarya Rai ‘s then fiancĂ© Abhishek Bachchan. And because of this, a no- kiss clause was added in the contract for Jodha Akbar, by Abhishek bachchan for Aishwarya Rai.
Talking about this, Hrithik states,” That’s Not True at all. But because of our unavailability to the media in the past, for which I apologize, several stories about the film have been concocted. We were all so involved with the film that couldn’t refute the irresponsible journalism”.
He also added that the scene was vital to the script which elaborates about the passion towards the heroine from the hero. So that is why, the scene was shot. Hrithik also denied that Abhi was very much hurt about the scene which involved his beau and said that he is a true professional and was comfortable with it.
Well according to the latest reports Hrithik has refused a Yash Raj banner film. If sources are to be believed, hrithik refused to be a part of Aditya Chopra’s next. This is not Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi starring SRK and Himself which was announced on Friday, but it was totally another film which Adi had planned to cast the handsome actor. And the reason for this is said as Lack of Dates.
It is learnt that Adi wanted the film to be filmed in May, but unfortunately Hrithik is committed to shoot for Anurag Basu’s film in March and so Hrithik had backed out from the film.
But according to the close source, Hrithik has finally decided to work for only one banner from next year and that is his home banner KRAFT.
This is wise as his two films Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish were directed by his Dad and were super hits at the box office. So may be this is the reason why Hrithik roshan has finally decided to work only for his home production.
His next film with Anurag is produced by UTV and will start its schedule from March. This film is hoped to be completed by September this year and may release at the time of Diwali.Labels: Ashwariya rai, Bollywood news, Celeb News

Has Aishwarya decided to change colours?
With so many reservations and pre-defined conditions, her choice for roles and option of co-stars are getting limited day-by-day. So, it is definitely very wise of the Bachchan Bahu to follow the footsteps of Aamir and Ajay and Sushmita.
Yes, tis true that the Bollywood queen, Aishwarya Rai Bahcchan, is all set to launch a production house - Band Width Entertainment - in partnership with her secretary Hari Singh. The project will have Hari Singh’s daughter Bhumicka in the lead role.
